Ecclesiastes 1:1-2

“The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem. Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.”
Talk about the greatest piece of wisdom known. Solomon himself said that everything, not just riches or pleasure, but everything is vanity. It's almost the worth of dung. It's nothing and profits nothing and goes away like a puff of smoke in the wind. The act is still there but it dissipates into a never ending nothingness. One thing that I've had to learn the hard way is just quite how useless I actually am. That's the honest truth. I don't profit the world at all compared to things like rain and the sun and water. Then what's so important about my life?
Rain and water and the sun don't have a soul but I do. Their profit on the world is temporary. If the sun disappeared for some reason we'd all pass pretty quick. Same if there wasn't anymore rain and water. But if I do things for the Lord and for His kingdom, much more will be changed and many more things would be beautiful. The difference between working in vanity and working in something that won't be vanity, is whom your working towards. The Lord or the world? The more we lean forward to Christ the less we are in the muck of the world.
Where am I working towards? Where are you working towards?

Ecclesiastes 1:9-10

“The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun. Is there any thing whereof it may be said, See, this is new? it hath been already of old time, which was before us.”
Solomon describes this life as always repeating its self. He was searching for some experience or pleasure that would give his life meaning. He describes this world and all it has to offer as the life ‘under the sun’. He discovered that every experience he could possible have was pitiful efforts to enjoying joy in the Lord. There is nothing new under the sun. Our lives weren’t created for trying to have fun and doing things how we want them, but for God’s glory. Seeking things ‘under the sun’ in order to experience joy which can only be found ‘above’ will leave us constantly seeking but never finding. I look 'under the sun' often times for a thrill or for peace. But I need to understand that my God is 'above' the sun in His Heaven. When I'm finally able to stop looking to the horizontal and look at the vertical, the peace of the Lord will be seen my my own two eyes. That's real fulfillment.

IBS Exodus 8:19

“Then the magicians said unto Pharaoh, This is the finger of God: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened, and he hearkened not unto them; as the Lord had said.”

‭‭‬ ‭"This is the finger of God." Being here for the duration I have has shed so much light on this verse. What does the finger of God personally mean to me? First it's the power of the law. When God spoke with Moses and gave him the Ten Commandments, God wrote them with His finger. By the Lords finger He brought the ten plagues into Egypt. By Gods finger I'm humbled and my pride is brought down.
It's also the instrument that the Lord chooses to lift me up. Jesus said to suffer the little children to come to Him. It brings me joy to think that I have the opportunity to be a little Christ when I go to the schools and teach, or when we have Kids Club, or when we go to the hospital to minister to little ones. Several weeks ago we went to the hospital and it was just team Guate and an RA. We were able to go to the babies and right when we walked in we saw this little girl named Linda who was dressed in a green onesie with a green beanie. She was so adorable and at the start I wanted to spend time with her. I either held her in my arms when I sat down or walked around, and often I would lead her around with my finger. Her little hand took my finger and when she left to get her water cup, she would come back and grab my finger or lift up her arms for me to pick her up. Jesus does the same for me. When it's a struggle to get out of bed or to do something for Kids Club, the Lords finger is right there for my grasping and for my stability. God is so much bigger than I am and He is able to do miraculous things. Praise the Lord for that.

IBS Philippians 1:3

“I thank my God upon every remembrance of you"

I don't do this all the time. I probably don't do it half the time. Who all do I actually think of on a day by day basis?
I think of family. Friends from America and Australia. And now everyone I am in Class eleven with as well as Bible collage. Most of the time I just think of a great memory and make a mental laugh or smile and that's it. But it's challenging to pray for them. Cry for them or even try to get ahold of them.
I honestly think about them a lot. But prayer is difficult.
Another thing to challenge myself and others is thanking God for those memories. Thanking God for it all. Because it's easy to not thank God for them and just ask why He's given this "burden" of a person to be around. It's not only easy but not Godly. For my application I will write down every name of Bible collage and IGNITE and keep it always in my Bible so that I'm never without excuse to not thank God for them.

Genesis 37-50

This is a little bit about the life of Joseph. Many things about his life ministered to me in ways I didn't expect.

The Lord ministered to Joseph in many ways, but I focused on when the Lord spoke to him and not what He said. First thing is that while Joseph was sleeping the Lord gave him dreams. Then after that his brothers threw him into a dry well. Then he went to Egypt, followed by prison.

To make it short, we don't read that God told him this or that. But we see the fruit. Potiphar saw that the Lord was with Joseph. The prison leader saw that the Lord was with Joseph. And even when Joseph said the meaning of the dreams of the cup bearer and baker of Pharaoh, but the cup bearer forgot about Joseph for two years. We see the fruit. When Joseph was second over all of Egypt, we don't read of him lashing out on Potiphar or the cup bearer. And, Pharaoh saw that the Spirit of God was with Joseph.
Where's my fruit like that?

An application is simple. Read and reread His Word and pray. That's where my fruit needs to come from.

IBS Genesis 19:36-38

“Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. And the firstborn bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Ben–ammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭19:36-38‬ ‭

In chapter nineteen of Genesis, we read of the destruction of Sodom, as well as Lots wife turning into a pillar of salt. The two verses that really spoke to me were the ones towards the end. What I saw was both clear and convicting about my actions and how I often I take matters into my own hands. When Lots two daughters did what they thought was right, it lead them to sleeping with their father. When I do what I believe is right, according to my flesh, it leads me to do things I never would have thought of doing otherwise. But it's when I seek the counsel of the Lord that my way becomes clear and that is when my paths are straight. After I finish what I wanted to do I may feel like it was the right choice. Working in an ungodly environment for more money. Being in a relationship with someone whom I know is not living according to the Lord. Giving the wrong advice to someone, and not even pointing them to the Scriptures. Those are just a few examples of what many people do, even in the church. But what all of us, especially myself realize is the terrible after affects. Because of the sins Lots daughters committed, they gave birth to two people whom are the fathers of nations that will be a constant burden on Israel for generations to come. In order to have a better, though not perfect, future, I need to live for Christ now. Today is the day to live for Christ, follow in His will and seek His face. Right now is the time to wash myself in His Word, not tomorrow, and I can't rely on what I did yesterday.

IBS Genesis 1:3 pt.2

“And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.”
What I want to look into is the second part of verse two. Genesis 1:2 says, And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
What I see here, based on what I wrote for my last IBS, is two things. The first is how dark it must have been without the light. Spiritually, when one becomes saved, the light of the Lord is shown upon them. They no longer live in darkness because according to John 1:5, And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
If Jesus is the light of the world why do so many Christians still DESIRE to live in darkness? It's because their pride doesn't want their shame to be brought into light. What they don't understand is how in order to clean something, you first have to be able to see what the problem is. Humility is essential to the Christian walk so that we don't settle for a darker life that's able to hide more.
The second thing is about the Spirit of God. First of all the Spirit of God was there from the start. Second it was there even when it was dark. No one being is able make the Holy Spirit stay away from them. Consequently, non-believers aren't able to keep it away with the filthy of the flesh. For an application I will just remind those around me to stay in the light of Christ if ever I see them start to stumble.
